The Golf Innovators Panel

January 24, 2019, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Room 101
Colin Weston - host of The ModGolf Podcast - moderates what will be an engaging panel discussion with a diverse group of golf industry entrepreneurs. Colin will spend the first 45 minutes asking his previous episode guests about their entrepreneurial journey along with insights, tips and cautionary tales to help make your golf business more innovative.... and profitable. Colin will open up the floor for audience questions for any of our four panelists. Our Golf Innovators Panelists: Donna Hoffman - Founder and President, Women On Course Donna is the founder of Women On Course which she began in 2005. Her concept that golf extends beyond the scorecard has intrigued and engaged thousands of women in the golf lifestyle by highlighting the social, business and fitness benefits of the game. What began as a happy hour conversation grew throughout the country to a successful series of over 2,000 annual events. After 10 years of introducing women to the game of golf, Donna discovered the secret to her success: Connection. And not just to the ball. The real magic happens during shared experiences and conversation at 19th hole. (And if you don't golf yet, that's the clubhouse which is often the most favorite hole). Donna's thought leadership has taken down the barriers for new golfers to enter the game and re-defined the sport to encompass travel, food, wine and style. She was recently named by the LPGA as a 'Disrupter' and one of 22 women Spearheading a Revolution in Golf. ________ Dave Cavossa - Founder and CEO of CaddieNow CaddieNow is changing the way people think about caddie programs. CaddieNow's mission is to bring caddies back to the game of golf while protecting and preserving caddie programs at the nations' top 1,000 clubs. For teens and college students, they want to introduce them to their first job. For passionate adults with part-time openings, they help make their avocation their occupation. Not long ago CaddieNow was just an app connecting golfers with on-demand caddies at roughly 100 clubs around the nation. Now they've become the largest workforce solution in golf. Whether it's a caddie, bag room attendant, or part-time labor they use technology and their pool of passionate 'gig economy' workers to give clients what they want, when they want it. Prior to CaddieNow Dave led small, medium and large businesses during 15 years in the telecom industry. During his eight years at Harris/CapRock Communications Mr. Cavossa served in multiple leadership roles including Vice President, General Manager of Harris CapRock's Government Solutions business unit where he oversaw the direction and growth of a $200M+ business. He also served as VP, Sales and Business Development, VP, Operations and VP, Government Affairs. Previously, Mr. Cavossa spent six years at the Satellite Industry Association (SIA), where he led the trade association as Executive Director. ________ Joanne Cloak - CEO and Founder, JoFit Joanne began Jofit in her basement and garage much to the dismay of her husband's large collection of tools. She told anyone and everyone about what she was doing proudly. Sometimes, those conversations led to new additions to the team. Along the way she didn't create a company, she created a family with a fixed idea. Like a snowball, Jofit grew larger and larger as it rolled. The unusual approach and ideology from its leader has given Jofit a noticeably different characteristic. Joanne works closely with her experienced design team. She tries each garment on herself making sure the fit is something every woman can appreciate before it goes to production. Joanne reaches out to customers on a regular basis, she thanks her employees for their hard work and dedication and has even went up to the warehouse to get her freshly manicured hands dirty when an overwhelming web sale was a little too much for the staff to handle. Joanne is a mother of three; Tyler, McKenzie and Logan. She lives with her husband Kenny and beloved pitbull Rye in Newtown, Pennsylvania. ________ YuChiang Cheng - President, Topgolf Media YuChiang joined Topgolf Media as president following Topgolf Entertainment Group's successful acquisition of World Golf Tour (WGT), the world's largest golf website and mobile golf game, which he co-founded in 2006. At Topgolf Media, YuChiang and his team tap their gaming, entertainment and tech expertise to create meaningful, shared digital moments for the Topgolf community. Through the use of technology, Topgolf Media further enhances in-venue golf games, apps and virtual experiences. In addition, the company supports the Topgolf experience with strategic partnerships, sponsorships and digital content. Under YuChiang's leadership, WGT grew from zero to 14 million players, bringing console-quality graphics to web and mobile platforms. WGT was one of the first U.S. games to leverage free-to-play in-app purchases and in-game native advertising. Prior to WGT, YuChiang served on the executive team of WagerWorks (NYSE: IGT) as vice president of corporate development and product marketing. While at WagerWorks, he helped launch online gaming favorites Virgin Games, World Poker Tour and Hard Rock Casino before the company was acquired by IGT in 2005. YuChiang graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado College. He lives in Silicon Valley and, when not playing golf, you'll find him restoring classic cars, playing hockey and wrestling his dogs. ________ You can listen to all four of our panelist's ModGolf Podcast episodes at their show page at or subscribe to ModGolf Podcast for free on iTunes.
