Miniature Belt is Most Unique New Trophy to Hit Golf Industry
Coconut Creek, Fl, (January 20, 2010) – Winner’s Award Group, a leading provider of unique trophies and gifts for the golf industry, will be unveiling the first miniature CHAMPIONSHIP BELT for Golf at this year’s PGA merchandise show at the Orlando Convention Center on January 28-30. The new Championship Belt is more than 28 inches long, weighs more than 3 pounds, and is made from beautiful black full-grain leather. Heavy gold-plated medals of golf figures and golf balls are mounted on the sides of this beautiful award. The largest middle medallion gives any country club or tournament the ability to customize each belt with its own logo or event name.
The idea for the Golf Belt originated from a loyal customer of Winner’s Award Group who wanted something different for his Member-Guest tournament. From there, the company began to research the idea and found that a CHAMPIONSHIP BELT for golf had ties to the first Open Championship. A Challenge Belt was designed in 1860 as the first British Open trophy. Each year, golfers had to give the belt back, although if someone won it three years in a row he was allowed to keep it. In 1870 a Young Tom Morris won it for the third straight year and took the belt home. With the belt no longer available, the British Open changed the trophy to the Claret Jug.

Some clubs are even starting new events called the Championship Belt Challenge. Each month or quarter, members can challenge the top ranked player to take possession of the belt.
